On March-April 2023, we help and funded a conservation project for the Critically Endangered (CR) Yellow crested cockatoo in Moyo Island, Sumbawa. This species is one of the 2 CR status parrots in Indonesia according to IUCN.
The form of conservation activity is a research on the characteristics of cockatoo nests and the habitat within nest trees. The data gathered from the research then turned into a prediction modeling map of the most suitable to less suitable habitat for nest in all around Moyo Island.
Based on the modeling map, we placed nest boxes to give more alternative nests choices for the cockatoos. Those nest boxes also aim to the easiness of monitoring activities, security reason, and to reduce the nest occupancy competition with other species.
